Diarrhea Due To Asthenia Of The Spleen

Main symptoms and signs Thin stool with intermittent onset, susceptibility to postcibal diarrhea with light colour and without fetid odour, sallow complexion, poor appetite, listlessness, emaciation, pale tongue with whitish fur, thready and weak pulse.

Therapeutic methods Strengthening the spleen, supplementing qi, promoting the splenic function of transportation and transformation to check diarrhea.

Prescription and drugs The prescription used is the modified Shenling Baizhu Powder composed of 10 g of Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae), 10 g of
Fuling (Poria), 10 g of Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), 4 g of Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), 12 g of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), 3 g of Sharen ( Fructus Amoral) (to be decocted later), 10 g of Biandou (Semen Dolichoris), 10 g of Yiyiren (Semen Coicis) and 3 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae)

Modification For the patients with epigastric and abdominal distension and pain, 5 g of Muxiang (Radix Aucklancliae) and 8 g of Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi) are added; for the patients with thick and greasy fur, 10 g of Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) and 8 g of Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) are included; for the patients with short breath and no desire for speaking as well as prolapse of rectum, 10 g of Huangqi (Radix Astragaliseu Hedysari) and 6 g of Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) are inclnded; for the patients with remained dampness and heat, 3 g of Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis) and 10 g of Machixian (Herba Portulacae) are added; for the patients with thin and cold stool and clear urine as well as continuous abdominal pain, 8 g of Paojiang (baked Ginget) and 10 g of Weiyizhiren (parched Fructus Alpiniae Oxyphyllae) are included.
