Chronic Glomerulonephritis Due To Yin Deficiency Of The Liver And Kidney

Main symptoms and signs: Facial edema, severe edema of lower limbs, chief complaint of dizziness and tinnitus in elder children, palpitation, insomnia, dysphoria with feverish chest, palms and soles, flushed cheeks, night sweat, red tongue with a little fur, taut and thready pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Tonifying the liver and kidney, calming the liver and suppressing yang.

Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Qiju Dihuang Pill (Pill of Six Drugs, Rehmannia with Wolfberry and Chrysanthemum) composed of 10 g of Gouqizi (Fructus Lycii), 10 g of Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi), 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), 10 g of Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni), 10 g of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), 10 g of Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), 10 g of Yimucao (Herba Leonuri), 15 g of Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) and 10 g of Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizea).

Modification: For the patients with dysphoria, insomnia, dark and scanty urine, 10 g of Xiaoji (Herba Cephalanoploris), 10 g of Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae) and 10 g of Hanliancao (Herba Ecliptae) are added; for the patients with persistent hypertension and hyperactive liver yang, 0.6 g of Lingyangjiaofen (powder of Cornu Antelopis) (swallowed separately), 10 g of Gouteng (Bamulus Uncariae cure Uncis) and 15 g of Zhenzhumu (Concha Margaritifera Usta) are included.

In the case of chronic nephritis with prolonged use of hormonal drugs resulting in the symptoms of hyperactive fire due.to yin deficiency such as moon-shaped face, acne, hectic skin, buffalo neck and back, bulimia, red tongue with a little fur, taut and thready pulse. Therapeutic methods are advisable of clearing away heat, nourishing yin and tonifying the kidney. The drugs include 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae, 10 g of Shanzhuyu(Fructus Corn), 15 g of Shanyao (Rhizoma iXoscoreae), 10 g of Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), 6 g of Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), 6 g of Huangbai(CortePhellodendri), l0 g of Zhibiejia (Carapax Trionycis Praeparata) (to be decocted first), 10 g of Guiban (Plastrum Testudinis) (to be decocted first), 10 g of fizhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi), 10 g of Hanliancao (Herba Ecliptae) and 10 g of Shiwei (Folium Pyrrisiae).
